Blogging, a popular past time for many.
As a 20 something it is expected that you are up to date on all the
latest technology, gadgets, and that you want to spend a considerable
amount of time out partying with your friends because you only live once
(yolo) right? Here is my question. What happens when you don't conform
to the expectation of society? When you don't want to do what "young
people" do? When you aren't even sure what young people do?
As a young professional who easily
works ten hour days, I find that I do not have the energy to keep up
with the "demands" of my age group. Especially when there is additional
financial pressure. Student loans don't pay themselves, and the idea of a
second job is looming in the distance. However, what does a teacher do
for a second job? I have read several websites that advise: tutoring,
freelance writing, home businesses, subbing, and learning to sell items
on ebay. Oh! and how could I forget the infamous "you can sell your
ideas on teacherspayteachers." Not that I don't enjoy that website
because I am a frequent customer. However, as a person new to the
profession, I don't have anything to sell. Unless I want to risk being
sued for plagiarism by selling the ideas of others back to them.
I
like the idea of freelance writing. I like to think that the ideas
running around in my head are the beginnings of the next great American
novel. However, does that make me smart enough to write freelance
articles about subjects which I may have no knowledge of? Did I just end
a question with a preposition? Does that mean that I do not have enough
grammatical knowledge to be able to even edit the work of others?

those words in mind, I set out on my adventure to try something new. I
will seek to attempt freelance writing, and find the answer the
question: "What do young people do?"
